What we do
We’re a community art center and gathering space for people of all ages to share, create, and inquire together. Our mission is to serve a wide group of participants, allowing for neighbors from different backgrounds to deepen their bonds through art- making and collaboration. Our programs are offered at a sliding scale pay rate, in Spanish and English as much as possible, and our staff of educators and teaching artists are deeply rooted in the community. It is our goal that families are able to engage wholeheartedly in all aspects of the space including classroom activities, volunteer opportunities, events and meetings, regardless of their family structure, socioeconomic or cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, or preferred language.
Since opening in 2017, we have engaged hundreds of people in our community through workshops, classes and events. We have forged partnerships with local public schools and our neighborhood tenants' union. The space has hosted exhibitions for local artists, served as an affordable and inclusive place for gatherings, and now functions as a hub for mutual aid efforts like food distribution and support for homeless neighbors. As we expand our reach in years to come, we plan to help form a network of local small businesses who pledge to give back to the community, hiring local workers and sponsoring enrichment programs for local youth. We also aim to host a series of discussions around the negative effects of gentrification, initiating dialogue between marginalized, low income neighbors and those with privilege. Through this work, we believe the people in our community can learn to support each other, creating positive and lasting change.
